eCommerce Content Tip #2: Use Your Statistics

In addition to tracking KPIs for evaluating your website, you should also be using your statistics to decide on what future content to develop.

There are several metrics you should pay attention to with regards to your ecommerce site.  For more information see a recent post on ecommerce KPIs.

In addition to tracking KPIs for evaluating your website, you should also be using your statistics to decide on what future content to develop.

Here are some places to look:

  • What keywords bring in the most visitors?
This information will give you an indication of content your visitors are seeking to find on your website.  As you look at these keywords, consider what helpful information you could provide to assist them in making a purchase.
  • Does your site have an internal site search?  If so, can you see what visitors are searching on?
Keywords used in internal site searches are a great source for ideas for content on your website that will help your visitors find what they are looking for.
  • What pages are your exit pages?
This tells you what pages visitors are on before they leave your site.  You may want to provide additional information that could help keep that visitor on your site or provide them with the reassurance they need to make a purchase.  Do visitors typically leave at a certain point in your checkout process?  What information could you provide to deal with the concern they may be having as a part of their checkout process?

There is much that can be learned through your website statistics.
