Aside from the Title Tag, Body Text and ALT Tags, there are several others areas you should check for the presence of your keywords.
Links represent one of the most powerful features on the web. Links
allow visitors to click on words or graphics and their browser will
go to another web page designated by your web designer. Many search
engines decided that a way to see if a keyword is truly relevant
to your page is to look for the presence of keywords in the text
that has a link around it.
You can see examples of this for the keyword "Christian weddings"
here http://www.brillianceweb.com/images/se_linktxt.gif
In the third link shown in the above example, the entire keyword
is not used, but the word "wedding" is used. Even using
just part of your keyword can boost your ranking with many search
engines.
Some search engines are also looking at the actual URL (website
address) that is linked to in the links of your page for the presence
of your keywords. This means that by placing your keywords in the
actual name of your pages, you may be able to rank higher. Here
is an example of HTML you could use to increase your chance of ranking
well for Christian weddings:
<A HREF="christian_weddings.htm">Christian Weddings</A>
<BR>More information on Christian weddings
You can even use folder names with your keywords, for example:
<A HREF="weddings/christian.htm">Christian Weddings</A>
<BR>More information on Christian weddings
Try clicking on the different links on your page and seeing if
any of the file or folder names that your links go to contain your
keyword.
META tags are invisible tags within the HTML of a web page that
specifically identify keywords for a search engine. Since many web
designers were abusing the use of this area and specifying keywords
that were not relevant to the actual page, many search engines use
this area less than in the past and only in conjunction with the
other areas that we have identified in this and the last issue.
However, this is still an important area to have your keywords in.
In order to view your META keywords and descriptions, go to your
web page and click on "View" in your web browser and then
click on "Source". You should see something similar to
the following:
<HTML>
<HEAD>
<TITLE>Christian Weddings: Unique Ideas - Page 1 of 3</TITLE>
<META name="Keywords" content="christian weddings,
wedding ideas, marriage, ceremony, reception">
<META name="Description" content="Make your
Christian wedding a blessed event with these unique ideas.">
</HEAD>
<BODY>
Make sure that you see your keyword both in the area that starts
<META name="Keywords" and in the area that starts <META
name="Description".
